I translate pleadings, legal opinions and other legal documents, with particular experience in trade mark and competition law. My work includes licence agreements, judgments and interim injunctions, as well as documents concerning employment, company and property law.

Certified translations

Public authorities, courts, universities and employers often require certified translations of documents. As a translator authorised by the Higher Regional Court of Hamm for English and Spanish, I certify the accuracy and completeness of translations for official use.

  • Birth, marriage and death certificates
  • Certificates of inheritance
  • Certificates of conduct (criminal record certificates)
  • Educational certificates and academic transcripts

Translation rates

I charge per line of translated text. The rate per line depends on the complexity, urgency and volume of the assignment.

A translation may be longer than its source text. English texts, for example, often expand when translated into German. Differences between legal systems or cultural contexts may also require explanatory wording or definitions.

Special formatting requirements and any necessary file conversions are charged separately.

About me

Maria Welsing

I trained as a legal and notarial assistant before studying English and Spanish translation at Cologne University of Applied Sciences, with a specialisation in law.

The course combined the study of different legal systems with practical training in translating legal texts.

After completing my degree in translation, I worked for international law firms and companies. I have been a freelance legal translator for more than 20 years.

My clients include international law firms, companies and institutions. Many recommend my services to their colleagues.

For more than five years, I also translated press releases on EU research and development projects for daily publication online. This required accurate German translations, with particular attention to specialist terminology and style, under tight deadlines.
